leaning tower of gingerbread

Oh how things never seem to go as planned. Take one ideal winter evening. Baby Keegan is fast asleep so Makena and I decide to build our gingerbread house that Grandma brought for us. We put on the Christmas music, dim the lights, tree is lit and throw some cookies in the oven for a snack. We line up our gingerbread, candies and icing. We are ready to decorate. Sounds like a shot right out of a Martha Stewart magazine.

When all of a sudden. Insert sound of a record screeching here. Chaos ensues. As we are attempting to add candies to our rooftop the entire house collapses. Keegan wakes up. The dogs won't stop barking. Makena's face and hands are covered in red colored slobber from eating and licking all of the ingredients. So I run in to get Keegan. Feed the dogs. Give Makena a good wipe down and attempt to regain my composure. We have run out of icing but fortunately we have left over icing from our gingerbread cookies made earlier this week. So I run to the fridge. Throw the icing in the microwave so we can work with it. Get back to the table and Keegan has taken the bowls of candy and is now having his way with the ingredients on the floor. I sit back and just laugh. Why not?

Needless to say our house is now the leaning tower of gingerbread. But hey, I'm Italian so it works.

So I'm being reminded daily by you crafty mommies that I need to get working on my handmade Christmas gifts for everyone. I'm just sitting back, surfing blogs, amazed by what all you girls come up with while in the meantime my days are numbered. I'm such the procrastinator and there is no way I can get all of this done if I wait until the last minute. So I did my research today, got my supplies in order, made my list and figured out what I was going to make for everyone. Hold onto your seat belts. Here we go!

Christmas List (all in progress, as of tonight):
crochet scarf
fabric scarf (2)
appliqued shirts (3)
softies (2)
pillowcase aprons (2)
elf/gnome baby hat (2)
woodland elf hat
record bowls (2)
set of coasters

12 days left... no pressure.

too funny! Gingerbread houses are always a disaster around here.

Nice list! I forgot that those coasters are on mine too. Oops!

wow... those are some serious goals! I would love to do an entirely handmade Christmas, but sadly: most people in our family would hate it.

I love the thought of Keegan eating his way through a gingerbread house - a little bit Hansel and Gretel! Good luck with the Christmas gift manufacture! I can always open up my sweatshop again if you need some help!!

We've had similar disasters as well. But it's all fun. :)

The only thing I have left to make for Christmas are the itunes gift cards. Yeah, I know, but I can't craft. Seriously.

Your gingerbread house is so pretty! That's the next project I wanna do, but I think I'll wait till next year.

And good luck on your list! You can do it! I'm cheering for you.
