finger update

Thanks for all of your well wishes and prayers!

I just wanted to give all of you an update on Makena's finger. We visited another surgeon this morning who feels like we need to be proactive in this case. No one knows how it's going to grow. If you are familiar with anatomy, there are growth plates between each bone. And her growth plate that she had that was between her finger bone and finger tip bone (none of these are correct terms so bear with me) is out of line. It's only about 1/4 of the size that it was. It was shattered in the gate and has gone. And now the remaining sliver of her growth plate is not even between those two bones in her finger. Her finger tip now droops and with the growth plate out of line we need to do something.

This doctor feels like we need to get that growth plate back in line if we can. Do a surgery now and then in a couple of years more surgery to continue to correct the crooked growth. This will be a childhood of surgery to fix this finger. Just depending on how it's growing, go in and do reconstructive surgery. Only time will tell.

For now we are feeling positive that we have found a doctor that is proactive. She has surgery scheduled for next Thursday. They will put a pin in her finger to align the bones and try and realign the tiny growth plate.

Thanks for all of your supportive comments. They truly reach me when I need them most.

Wow, that is a lot of commitment but I am so glad that you found a doctor who is willing to pursue this... How does she feel about this?

OMG, where have I been to miss this?! I hope her little finger gets better. Goodness knows I wouldn't have known what to do had I been in your shoes. Good luck with the new doctor...hopefully he'll be able to fix it.

Sorry I haven't been around this week. I don't know where I've been ;) I was praying the doctors would figure this out. I will keep praying.
One day at a time - that's all you can do.
